Dave Britton Story and why he supports the Wreath of Respect

Hi, I am Dave Britton a Lab Technician for Loughborough University.
I became a Legion Rider in the mid noughties. Whilst watching the racing at Mallory Park I strayed too close to the RBLR tent and was accosted by two large military type gentlemen who shook me firmly by the legs until my membership fee fell from my pocket.
My son William and I’s involvement with the Wreath of Respect began on a previous venture involving Dougie Bancroft, The Thankful Villages Ride. We spent 2 days accompanying the Riders on their journey through the Midlands. Keeping in touch with Dougie after this ride.
When he began to organise the Wreath of Respect we expressed our interest and were offered the chance to carry the wreath on the second leg of its journey from Ely Cathedral to York Minster.

Tim Jones having carried it on the first leg (NMA to Ely). Our stay at the Cathedral took longer than expected what with cake and coffee. This meant the journey from Ely to York was a high-speed run. A stop was made at Cromwell Weir just North of Newark. At this point we found that the overnight resting place for the wreath had been changed and we were now to take it to the Yorkshire Air Museum at Elvington, so it was back on the A1 and up to speed.
The Wreath was laid to rest for the night with a short service and we headed for our overnight accommodation then home to Leicestershire the next day. Since carrying the wreath, I have stayed in touch with many of the riders from the Journey, Nick Enstone, Andy Body, Dave Haley, Tim Jones and many more and through them have meet many new friends.
I have gone on to travel into Europe with these friends. My association with the wreath has given me immense pride and new friends and will continue over the coming years. My brother Bob also accompanied the Wreath on our leg of the journey.

William now rides in his own right and continues to support the Wreath in its journeys.
